A NEW DIRECTION FOR JUSTICE IN ST. JOSEPH COUNTY
Assaultive Crimes
-
Bond conditions for "no contact" with victims will be enforced, and violations will go in front of the Court.
-
Cases submitted by law enforcement will be reviewed quickly, instead of taking months to be reviewed by a prosecutor.
-
Arrest Warrants for assaultive crimes will be made a priority for law enforcement, instead of taking weeks, months, or years to bring them to justice.

Repeat Offenders
-
Habitual offender notices for repeat felony offenders will be filed in all cases making the penalties greater for those who continue to commit felony crimes.
-
Referrals will be made to Adult Drug Treatment Court (ADTC) for repeat drug offenders that qualify.
-
Swift & Sure Sanctions Probation (SSSP) will be recommended for repeat offenders that meet the criteria in order to facilitate rehabilitative programs for those who want to change the "people, places, and things" in their lives that contribute to their cycle of addiction.
-
A vehicle forfeiture proposal for repeat drunk drivers will be presented to law enforcement to partner with the Prosecutor's office.
Responsible Firearm Ownership and Use
-
Citizens will be encouraged to exercise their legal rights to lawfully and responsibly own, possess, and use firearms.
-
Felons in possession of firearms will be held accountable, especially when firearms are used to commit a crime.

Drug Crimes
-
Treatment and Probation will be offered for all first-time offenders for possession or use of controlled substances.
-
Repeated drug crimes will result in incarceration recommendations if offenders refuse to address their addictions through ADTC or SSSP.
